How to improve: 129-130: Magikarp-Gyarados

1.Stats: Should Gyarados get a stat boost, Evolution, Mega Evolution or nothing?

Gyarados cannot get a stat boost, as it already has the highest BST for a common species.

Because of the above, Gyarados cannot get an evolution. It can get a mid-stage, however.

Gyarados already has a Mega, though it is quite terrible due to its in-game role as Lysandre's signature. It deserves a better one.

2.Should Gyarados get more abilities?

Yes. Gyarados only has two abilities, and its third ability chance was temporarily lost due to its Mega. Some options would be:

1. Anger Point
2. Drizzle
3. Water Veil
4. Strong Jaw

3. Should Gyarados get more moves?
In general, yes. Acrobatics and Recover are the most obvious ones, followed by Coil, Dragon Rush, Glare, Sucker Punch and Aqua Jet. Overall more Flying and Dark-type moves would help.

4.What additional typing Gyarados can have?

Gyarados already has a Dark-type Mega, so the remaining potential types would be Normal, Dragon, Electric, Steel and Fire.
