Let's talk about fan types. Part 10. Rainbow-type.

1. So, what is this type all about?
The idea behind this type is effectively introducing a type that is all types, or at least, most types, at once. This would allow for a species to get STAB from all types, while having only few resistances.

2.Where does this name come from?
The name comes from Rainbow Energy TCG card, which gives energy of all types. Rainbow Energy originally had its unique type symbol.

3. Does this type have an in-game source?
No, but Aurora Beam is rainbow colored, Fire Pledge and Water Pledge create a rainbow when combined, and Signal Beam is shown to be rainbow colored in the animé.

In addition, Rainbow has been a recurring theme of Pokémon, due the franchise's overall color theme.

Most notably, Ho-Oh and Xerneas are known to create rainbows.
4. What would be the ideas behind such a type?
Predominantly multicolored and reflective Pokémon would be on this type. Outside of that, color prisms and different varieties of rainbow and reflection would work.

 5. What would be the type interactions of such a type?
Effectively, this would be like a Pokémon that has all types simultaneously. Logically, for sake of balancing, immunities would likely be ignored.

In addition, Normal-type might be able to resist and hit super effectively against this type, as they are the basic type.
 6. What would be the distribution of such a type?
Similar to Fairy, this type would be distributed to variety of Pokémon, but largely fast and offensive Pokémon would be ignored, and weak species would put forward.

 7. Future comments:
Outside of Ho-Oh and Xerneas, several type changing species can be retconned to this type, such as Kecleon, Castform and maybe Arceus, if a Basic Plate for Normal-type were introduced.

A few thoughts on the com mon abilities of the newly introduced Pokémon.

-Mudsdale's Own Tempo: Japanese name of Own Tempo is My Pace, which is why it is commonly given to slow but steady Pokémon, such as Slowpoke-line and Numel. This might suggest that it will get Thrash, similar to Zebstrika, a dancing move, similar to Lombre-line and Spinda, Me First, similar to species like Lickilicky, or completely nothing outside of low speed, like Numel.

Alternatively, Own Tempo might be expanded in this generation. This is unlikely, as the ability has been given in all generations since its introduction.

-Bewear's Klutz: Klutz is useful for a single move, Fling. As Bewear has no claws or fangs, it cannot learn any Dark-type move besides Payback or Foul Play.

However, Klutz has also not been given to any Pokémon in Gen VI. So, it might have new toys to work with in Gen VII.

-Bounsweet's Oblivious: Oblivious has been boosted twice, once in Gen IV to block Captivate, and another time in Gen VI to block Taunt. Another boost might be in the way.

-Bounsweet's Leaf Guard: Leaf Guard is another move that is not given to any Pokémon in Gen VI. A new buff might be on the way, but mostly it just implies Bounsweet's moveset will include Leaf moves.

A few thoughts on Hyper Training

-Some people suspect that Super Training might be removed. If this is the case, it is possible that EV Vitamins' 10 per stat limit might be removed.

-Heritability and characteristics remain an issue. Auraninja of Serebiiforums suggested the characteristics will be based off original IVs, but it is possible that this might also extend to inherited IVs.

-If Super Training is removed, a new method of item grinding might be introduced in the place of Secret Super Training.

-Minmaxing for Hidden Power will be more easy, which makes me wonder if another variant of the move will be introduced.

Preliminary thoughts on weight and height of Pokémon(repost from Tumblr)

My current stream consciousness related to the weights and heights of Pokémon:
Overall:
-Very few species do not change their stats upon evolution, and very few of them go backwards.
-Thus, heights and weights reflect the species in-game role, stage and stats.
-Species that are meant to be equivalent of a stage tend to have stats match to that. Tyrantrum, Noivern, Aurorus and Probopass all have stats comparable to a third stage, both in BST, but also in height and weight. Yanma, Munchlax, Tentacool have stats comparable to a second stage, though barely in BST for Tentacool.
-Heights and weights have clearly determined the pre-evolutions and evolutions, as only species that could logically get one of them has gotten them. Porygon-line is an exception, though, since Z is a restated version of 2, and 2 was meant to be a smoother version of OG gon, so its lighter and smaller.
Yes, this also means some of the existing species can totally get evos, prevos etc. but only in theory since post-Eviolite no new stages have been introduced, but new side stages have(Sylveon)
-Similar to above, some species have odd trivia in their height and weight. Honedge’s statistic match real scabbards/executioner swords, and Mega Metagross is roughly heavy as a Metagross with another deformed Metagross strapped on back, which is what Mega Gross essentially is.

Heights:
-Almost all evolutionary lines are the double of their previous stage’s height, give or take 0.2 metres.
-The few that change more drastically also have drastic BST changes. Noibat to Noivern is a good example.
-Height of the Pokémon is dependent on the body style classification it seems. Species that change body styles have odd differences, because their height is calculated differently. Some don’t, however, for example, Lickilicky is tailless in its dex category but its height reflects its tail.
-Similar body types are differentiated if the evolution has horns. Rapidash and Sawsbuck have significant differences due to this.

Weight:
-Weights are completely honorary. They are not meant to be realistic. Instead, they reflect the stats or the value of Pokémon. This is likely because in bug wrestling competitions, Pokémon’s inspiration, heavier bug is almost always objectively better because it cannot be lifted, so their fictional counterparts are also determined by their weight.
-Stone evolutions and Megas do not differentiate from their base forms much.
-Certain generations have odd means of weighing Pokémon, depending on how they consider species. Sinnoh has heaviest base forms for its early game mons, because it is meant to be “the ultimate generation”, so the base forms are the ultimate(read: heaviest) base forms. Kalos and Unova Pokémon are meant to have their bases as mostly infants, so they are light, with Kalosians being lighter than Unovans. Unova and Hoenn have very heavy final species because they were light retcons, which attempted to make their new species significant.
-Third stages change drastically, because they are “the most perfect” forms. Second stages change drastically for Unovan Pokémon because they were meant to be competitively viable with Eviolite, but other generations do not do this, because they were meant to be transitional stages, thus shit. Though Hoenn mid-stages are a bit heavier to reflect the heavier second stages.
-Second stages gain a lot of weight, but not drastically(about double to five times of the original). Most drastic changes occur for odd generation species. Second stage starters have weight equivalent to these species. Pseudos are heavier, mostly(except Sliggoo and Dragonair who are very light to swim on surface of water).
-Later the species obtained the heavier, though mid-game mons tend to be heavier than late-game mons in their base forms for some reason.
-Cute mons are very light. Cinccino and Azumarill are not too different from their pre-evolution, even though Azumarill is a fatass. Cute legends also reflect this.
-Lore matters a lot. Floating and Flying species are very light, with more acrobatic evolutions like Venomoth and Gliscor being lighter than their pre-evolutions. Terrestial species are heavy. Glutton species and defensive species gain a lot of weight in all forms.
-Types matter a lot. Ground, Dragon, Steel, Rock and Ice are the heaviest, Fire, Electric are mediocre, Fairy, Bug and Flying are very light. Skrelp and Seadra gain significant amount of weight after their type change.
-The item hold by the species is reflected. Mega Sableye and Komala get their weight from their items.

Thoughts on Sun and Moon so far, July 2nd

New Pokémon:

Rockruff: The recent blurb definitely makes me think this will be two staged. It will obviously not keep its current abilities, just like how Lillipup doesn't(they share the species category, after all) but it might replace Vital Spirit by Insomnia rather than something completely different.

Its blurb:

"Iwanko looks cute, but is really gutsy: No matter how much it gets beaten it'll keep standing up to its enemies until it beats them."

is the same as Rufflet and Taillow's, confirming that it is physically offensively oriented with decent speed, and will likely have Sheer Force, Guts, Scrappy or Hustle as its HA.

Due to the attention it gets, it will likely be a main Pokémon in the series.

Komala: It's blurb and artwork seems to imply that it will be the Pancham/Teddiursa/Cubchoo of this generation, with its parents being common wild Pokémon in games and animé, and its pre-evolution being heavily marketed.

It will obviously be two staged. It is already 20 kgs, making it very heavy(due to its log).

Pikipek: Its' blurb confirms it will get Bullet Seed, which will likely be its only Grass move.

As it will be three staged, its final evolution will certainly be another predatory bird. Such a shame, because it would make the perfect Sap Sipper abuser.

It will likely get Fury Attack and a multi-hit flying move. It will probably remain UU/RU, however.

It will likely get a new type upon evolution, which should be revealed soon. Its final BST can be anything from 490 to 510.

Yungoos: It will likely not get any fang moves besides Crunch and Bite during the level-up period. Its HA will likely be Gluttony or Anger Point.

Its evolution will likely become part Dark. Its BST will be traditional 420 something. It will likely be a good competitive and in-game Pokémon, but be a terrible HM slave, having access to only Cut, Rock Smash and Strength.

Grubbin-Charjabug-Vikavolt: This will likely be pain to level-up, as its evolutions appear in high levels in the Japanese trailers.

Charjabug looks like it will have competitive stats, that is, around 420 BST, which will be very good with Eviolite. Battery will likely be exclusive to it, as its Japanese name is written the same as its species category.
Battery will likely be a Specially oriented Friend Guard, boosting allies by %25. Charjabug seems to be physically oriented as opposed to special Vikavolt, similar to Larvesta and Zweilous.

Vikavolt will be specially oriented and have a great Special Attack stat. Its stat total will be either 500 or higher, probably around 500-535. Its moves will likely revolve around cannon moves such as Flash Cannon and beam moves such as Signal Beam.

As the line has access to Levitate and a unique ability, they won't have any HA initially. Grubbin will likely have Sticky Web, giving the line the access to all niches Galvantula previously had.

Drampa: It will likely be specially oriented with decent Attack stat. Its special move will likely be Tri Attack, rather than Hyper Voice, or something new entirely.

The line might have some Grass moves like Energy Ball due to its association with Azure Dragon, and moves such as Dragon Dance due its origins from Chinese Dragon Dances. It might get Coil, as it is obviously a serpent.

It will likely be either a single stage Pokémon with 490 BST, a special two stage Pokémon with 550+ BST, or a three stage Pokémon with 530 BST. I thought it might be weaksauce three stager, but since it might have 106 Sp. Attack, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Bruxish: A single stage Pokémon that will likely have the traditional 460 BST, this fish will likely be dual offensive, having good Sp. Attack and Attack. Its HA might be Hydration(Moist Body to match its Vivid Body/Dazzling ability) or Swift Swim(to give it good speed). It might also be Intimidate, considering its blurb.

As its outgrowth is not recognized as a pearl, it will likely not get Power Gem. That's sad.

It will likely some new fang moves alongside Yungoos. Its primary purpose will be to give the Water 2 egg group tons of new toys to enjoy, however.

Cutiefly: It will likely be either late bloomer two stager, or a late bloomer three stager. Its BST will likely be lower than Vikavolt's, and be around 470-490 range or 490-510 range, depending on how much stages it will have.

Its primary ability will not be retained. Its secondary ability Shield Dust implies a moth or butterfly evolution. lemoncatpower from Serebiiforums suggested hummingbird hawk-moth as its final evolution, though it might have cocoon middle stage.

Its moves will likely invoke wind, meaning that it will get at least two of the Air Cutter, Air Slash or Hurricane, and it will likely have access to Quiver Dance. Due its blurb, it might have access to Pulse moves, or get a completely new Pulse move that is Bug or Fairy.

Its HA will likely be something worthless like Swarm.

Togedemaru: This guy will likely be available later on the game, just like all Pikaclones. Its stats will likely be somewhat closer to Emolga's and Pachirisu's, and have a mediocre Special Attack. It will likely be Dedenne and have no special Steel moves, instead relying on Gyro Ball, which will be worthless on its due to its speed and incredibly low attack.

Its additional moves will be Spikes, Pin Missile and Defense Curl. Its HA will likely be another Electric ability or even Battery.

Tapu Kako: Pretty much confirmed to be late-game, this guy will likely have the traditional 580 BST lower legendaries have. Due to its ability, it will not have access to Electric Terrain, much like Weather Trio.

It will likely merge with other guardians to create something that will rival Zygarde. It might get Stance Change as its HA.

Nature's Madness will be available to all guardians.

New Abilities:

All abilities will not be distributed to existing Pokémon, unless secondary HAs are introduced. Since this is an odd generation, there won't be any Ability retcons, besides Zygarde and maybe Ferroseed. This means that all abilities will be wasted on these new Pokémon, until the Mega Evolutions with these abilities are introduced.
