Continuation of this. Likely will be reposted after Gen VIII and Gen IX are fully datamined.
Gen X:
Gen X:
- Console: Tentatively Nintendo Switch's successor. As Switch's fate as a handheld remains dubious, I am going to put this as tentative.
- Year: 2025-2026. 2025 is if Switch is released in 2017. 2026 is if Nintendo has a real successor to 3DS in 2018.
- Location basis: From most likely to least likely:
- UK: The location of Detective Pikachu and one of the major European regions, this country is also the father of USA, which is relevant for BW remakes.
- Australia: Same as UK, but Australia likes Pokémon more so than UK.
- Greece: One of the more unique European regions, Greece would be interesting as a hub of the western regions.
- Taiwan: Basically it would be a knock-off mainland China.
- Dex structure. Either around 65 Pokémon and 35 new forms, or a 90-100 new species. There will almost certainly going to be new means of providing de-facto evolutions, whether they are new forms or something else, as this an even generation.
- Possible end of generational gimmicks?: After types and abilities, there are few routes to go. If Gen 9 is items, Gen 10 might be fusion.
- Increased irrelevancy of elemental types: As the remaining type combinations come to an end, the era of elemental type shenanigans should also come to close. After this point, the differences between them should diminish further.
- New field move: At this point, another new set of elemental field effects should happen. Whatever these successors to Terrains might be, they will ascend a few types in the franchise. Dark, Ghost, Dragon, Fighting is a potential grouping.
- More overworld encounters: Because we are in 3D (TM). And at this point, we will likely see a shift from random encounters to half-way overworld encounters. This generation might be the one that completes that shift, making Pokémon's encounter mechanics closer to SMTIV's.
- Less evolutions, more forms: Because they sell better.
- End of QR codes: If they haven't ended at this point, they should end now.

On legendaries:
-A repeat of S/M: This generation might take heavy inspiration from Gen 6's roster, much like how Gen 7 copied Gen 4's. Ghost/Dark, Ghost/Fairy and Ghost/Dragon is a possible trio.
-A repeat of D/P: The legendaries might be based off a previous version exclusive duo. Ground/Ghost, Poison/Ghost and Ghost/Dragon is an option.
-Something else entirely new: Legendaries might be based off Kami trio or have a Normal/Dark/Fighting trio in allusion to Bird Pokémon.
Sub-legendaries will likely be based off a previous generation. Pixie trio and Beasts can return.

- Water: Water will likely reach around 200 species, and around 50 moves. This should complete most of its necessities as a type. Water only needs some permutations to complete its type distribution, and after that point it will likely try to fill in its different Egg Groups.
- Normal: Normal will likely reach around 150, and around 244 moves. If a new type is not created by now, Normal would be the best type to separate into different categories. Some moves might be retyped to existing moves.
- Flying: Flying will have around 143 species and 36 moves. This will likely not be enough to separate it as a TCG type, but that will happen a generation or two later.
- Grass: Grass will have around 140 species and 60 moves. This might be enough to put separating Grass into different types into debate, but it won't happen soon.
- Psychic: Psychic will have around 121 species and 86 moves. This would be enough to separate the type into different groups.
- Bug: Bug will have around 110 species and 42 moves. This would be enough for it to become its own TCG type.
- Fire: Fire will have around 94 species and 50 moves. This won't be enough to change Fire's status quo, but it would make it more common as a coverage type and increase its status moves.
- Ground: Ground will have around 92 species and 36 moves. This will likely not be enough to separate it as a TCG type, but that will happen a generation or two later.
- Poison: Poison will have around 91 species and 40 moves. This will likely increase it as a status coverage, but not as a move coverage. It might force Poison-dedicated areas, however.
- Rock: Rock will have around 83 species and 25 moves. Rock might slowly become a proper special coverage type, but that will be about it. Common Rock-types will continue as they are.
- Fighting: Fighting will have around 81 species and 62 moves. Fighting will become a massive Special coverage type, but otherwise it won't change much. It might have its own area effect, however.
- Dark: Dark will have 73 species and 54 moves. Dark-type will likely become a major coverage type with higher end moves, but it will remain rare. Dark-type might have its own area effect, however
- Electric: Electric will have 72 species and 45 moves. Electric-type will likely expand towards physical, but it won't change much otherwise.
- Steel: Steel will have 72 species and 34 moves. Steel will continue its rise as a dominant type, but it won't change much otherwise.
- Fairy: Fairy will have 71 species and 32 moves. Fairy will not change much, but might start to become a coverage type.
- Dragon: Dragon will have 66 species and 24 moves. Dragon might have its own area effect, but that will be about it.
- Ghost: Ghost will have 62 species and 35 moves. Ghost might have its own area effect, but that will be about it.
- Ice: Ice will have 55 species and 34 moves. Ice will not change significantly whatsoever, but it might become its own type in TCG just because Water is gigantic now.
Potential additional cross-regional forms by type:
- Bug: Bug does not have a particularly less amount of species in a generation, but there are tons of weak species. Gen 6 does count, though.
- Dark: Only weak generation is Gen 7. There are quite a lot of weak species, mostly Alolan Variants, however.
- Dragon: Gen II and IV have both weak amount of Species. There aren't a lot of weak species, though.
- Electric: Gens 2, 4, 7 and 6 have relatively weak amount of species. There are also tons of weak species, in fact, all of them, that can get buffs.
- Fairy: Gen 5, 4 have relatively weak amount of species.
- Fighting: Gen 2, 6 have relatively weak amount of species.
- Fire: Gen 4 has relatively weak amount.
- Flying: Gen 6 has relatively weak amount.
- Ghost: Gen 2 has very weak amount.
- Grass: Gen 2 has relatively weak amount.
- Ground: Gen 6 has relatively weak amount.
- Ice: Gen 7 has relatively weak amount.
- Normal: Normal does not have a particularly less amount of species in a generation, but there are tons of weak species.
- Poison: Gen 2 and 6 have very little amount.
- Psychic: Psychic does not have a particularly less amount of species in a generation, but there are tons of weak species.
- Rock: Rock does not have a particularly less amount of species in a generation, but there are tons of weak species.
- Steel: Gen 6 is relatively weak.
- Water: Water does not have a particularly less amount of species in a generation, but there are tons of weak species.

Edit(02.04.2018): Reposts for Gen 8 post:
Edit(09.08.2017):
The next big thing involving Pikachu can be a few things:
-A gender independent form, such as Cosplay Pikachu being a form change, rather than a specific Pikachu.
-A third ability for the line.
-A defensive Light Ball.
-Light Ball affecting Pichu.
Edit(16.08.2017):
-Possibly a new evolution stone, either one that is type based like a Psychic Stone, or one that is based on a theme like a Twilight Stone or Dream Stone.
-Possible removal of type boosting items besides plates.
Edit(07.05.2018):
Ability change wishlist:
- Leaf Guard: Protects against status regardless of weather.
- Solar Power: Removes the damage under sun.
- Shell Armor: Ignores Defense lowering moves.
- Battle Armor: Ignores Defense lowering moves.
- Grass Starter Signature move: 95 BP, %100 Accuracy
- Fire Starter Signature move: 75 BP, %100 Accuracy
- Water Starter Signature move: 85 BP, %100 Accuracy
None of the major Egg Groups are expected to pass a generation, so it is not too important. But we might see Fairy/Human-Like or Fairy/Monster.
